As we head into a week-long break, I want to say how grateful I am to be SUESD’s Superintendent and share that student attendance continues to be up this year in SUESD! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

An important event coming up is called “Clearing The Air: Empowering our Youth Against Vaping, Tobacco, and Cannabis for Parents, Families, and Caregivers” and it is a free, family-friendly, bilingual, educational event on Wednesday, November 29th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm that is open to all community members throughout Santa Cruz County. I’d like to share with you brief videos of some great events that have taken place around our district recently. First up is the SUESD Community Pop-Up which was held on November 4, 2023, in conjunction with the New Brighton Middle School(NBMS)Harvest Festival with over fifteen community partners pitching in. I’d like to give special thanks to NBMS Assistant Principal Brittany Birchall and SUESD Nurse Vicky Grisham who spearheaded this effort along with lots of help from other colleagues. Next up is one of the great traditions at NBMS, the annual “Turkey Trot.” So much work is put into making this an excellent experience for students by the NBMS P.E. Team of Mr. Edgar, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Walding, and Mr. Walker. This year’s event took place on Monday, November 13, 2023. Check it out!

In an event I like to call “the best night of the year,” we have the SUESD Reclassification Ceremony. Approximately twenty students, all with a primary language other than English, were honored for achieving the status of Fluent English Proficient. And, finally, in the video linked below is a recording of the Superintendent’s Town Hall I held yesterday in case you missed it.

Mientras nos acercamos a un receso de una semana, quiero decir lo agradecido que estoy de ser el Superintendente de SUESD y compartir que la asistencia estudiantil continúa aumentando este año en SUESD. Feliz acción de gracias a todos.

Un evento importante que se avecina se llama “Despejando el aire: empoderando a nuestros jóvenes contra el vapeo, el tabaco y el cannabis para padres, familias y cuidadores” y es un evento educativo bilingüe, gratuito y familiar el miércoles 29 de noviembre de 6:00 - 7:30 pm que está abierto a todos los miembros de la comunidad en todo el condado de Santa Cruz. Me gustaría compartir con ustedes videos breves de algunos grandes eventos que han tenido lugar recientemente en nuestro distrito. El primero es el evento comunitario emergente de SUESD que se llevó a cabo el 4 de noviembre de 2023, junto con el Festival de la Cosecha de New Brighton Middle School (NBMS), con la colaboración de más de quince socios comunitarios. Me gustaría agradecer especialmente al asistente de NBMS. La directora Brittany Birchall y la enfermera de SUESD Vicky Grisham, quienes encabezaron este esfuerzo junto con mucha ayuda de otros colegas. El siguiente paso es una de las grandes tradiciones de NBMS, el “Trote del Pavo” anual. Se dedica mucho trabajo para que esta sea una experiencia excelente para los estudiantes por parte del NBMS P.E. Equipo formado por el Sr. Edgar, la Sra. Hughes, la Sra. Walding y el Sr. Walker. El evento de este año tuvo lugar el lunes 13 de noviembre de 2023. ¡Compruébalo!

En un evento que me gusta llamar “la mejor noche del año”, tenemos la Ceremonia de Reclasificación del SUESD. Aproximadamente veinte estudiantes, todos con un idioma principal distinto del inglés, fueron honrados por alcanzar el estatus de Competente en Inglés. Y, finalmente, en el video vinculado a continuación hay una grabación del Ayuntamiento del Superintendente que celebré ayer en caso de que se lo haya perdido.
